More than 70% of operators struggle to fill their HGV driver vacancies either some of the time or all of the time, new research has found.
In addition, 52% of operators believe that Driver CPC has not added any value to their business since its introduction a decade ago. However, 24% of operators feel it has made their drivers safer on the road and a further 20% felt it had furnished employees with new skills. The main stress factor for businesses was management of the driver workforce, with 64% saying this was a challenge.
Those are the main findings from a Fleet Management Operator Survey compiled by Motor Transport and Commercial Motor. The aim of the research was to investigate the key trends and challenges in managing a commercial vehicle fleet in today’s operating environment.
It asked operators of all sizes how they rated key driver issues such as recruitment, reliance on agency workers and calibre of training providers. It also probed a range of other fleet management topics, such as compliance, telematics and connected vehicle technology, emissions reduction and vehicle utilisation.
