A record number of new vans and pick-ups hit British roads in 2016, according to the latest figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders.
Some 375,687 new light commercials were registered in the year – the highest ever level and the fourth consecutive year of growth, despite a slight downturn in December. The total includes 232,948 vans in the 2.5-3.5t segment, an increase on 2015 of 4.8%.
“Another record year for light commercial vehicles is great news, even marginal growth of 1%, and underlines the fundamental strength of the sector,” Mike Hawes, the SMMT’s Chief Executive, said. “To ensure future fleet investment and growth in this important market, buyers – and manufacturers – are looking for a strong economy and business environment.”
